Born on 28 October 1990 — during one of Zambia's most turbulent periods — a teenage boy sat on the dusty ground behind his family's modest home in Kabwe, Zambia, surrounded by discarded radio parts. Transistors, copper wire, old speaker cones, circuit boards scavenged from broken radios in the neighbourhood — these were his only window to the world outside.
That boy's name was Chibeza. He wasn't just building radios for fun — he was building them to hear voices, music, and stories from places he could only dream of visiting. Every frequency he caught was a glimpse of a bigger world. Every signal was proof that life extended far beyond the dusty streets he knew.
A loved one would look at him and say: "You should share these stories with the world. Go into broadcasting." That seed became DENGA FM.
Chibeza went on to travel across Europe, Africa, and the Asia Pacific — including Australia, where he now lives and broadcasts from. Every stamp in his passport was earned through resilience. Today, DENGA FM broadcasts 24/7 from three studios across Melbourne, Kabwe, and Lusaka — reaching listeners in 80+ countries.

"DENGA" means "roof over the house" or "rooftop" — the place where a home finds its shelter, and where antennas reach highest to catch the world's signals. The rooftop is where we place our antennas — reaching higher, dreaming bigger, broadcasting farther. It is also the shelter that protects a family, just as DENGA FM aims to be a safe space for music, stories, and community.
